I am afraid that we have already left
Like most of us, we have a normal working day tomorrow. And, besides, today's sessions only covered half a day, while some of the presentations - as always at the last day of a large congress - have what we call 'a high rat-and-mouse level', i.e. a lot of the stuff discussed is often of a highly experimental nature. Of course it is well worth attending these presentations, but a lot is not interesting from a practicing urologist's point of view.
We would like to thank our sponsor, Abbott, who arranged the trip to Stockholm and made sure no one was lost in the many waters of the city, apart from taking care of everything including the excellent Swedish food. The liquor in Sweden is a bit expensive, though, and we were told by our rather obese chauffeur last night that it is only sold in state-controlled stores, which even aren't allowed to be open in the weekend. Ninety percent of the price of alcoholic beverages is tax! No wonder that daily cruises out of Stockholm just far enough in international waters to allow taxfree shopping are so popular. Apart from that, he judged that one-third of alcohol consumed is sold thorugh these stores, while on-third was smuggled in and another third illegally brewed in the vast expanse of the nort of Sweden. Anyway, the system has to be revised, because of Sweden's entry in the European Union.
We also like to thank Ms Renée van der Maesen of the Dutch Urological Association, who was so kind to arrange for press badges, so we could photograph anything and anyone without questions asked.
See you in Dallas for the AUA - also to be covered by UROlog.
Bye.
